Epilepsy Surgery Collaboration for Clinicians

Discuss a case. Plan the next step. Build local expertise.

Discuss a case or collaboration

For neurologists and neurosurgeons seeking a collaborative approach to epilepsy surgery. We welcome discussions about presurgical evaluation, surgical-team involvement and the development of local epilepsy services.

How can we work together?

Case discussion and presurgical evaluation

Have a patient whose next step is unclear? Discuss the clinical question with us—from planning the presurgical work-up to reviewing how the available findings fit together. The aim is to identify what is established, what remains uncertain and what further assessment may help.

Surgical-team collaboration

Explore how surgical expertise could support your team’s planning and surgical process. This may include discussion with surgeons or participation in care, with the role, setting and responsibilities agreed for each case. On-site involvement depends on surgeon availability and the hospital’s approvals, facilities and credentialing arrangements.

Developing a local epilepsy programme

For teams establishing or strengthening a presurgical or surgical service, we can discuss a staged approach to clinical pathways, case review and collaboration with surgical colleagues. The starting point is your existing team, facilities and the support you need—not a one-size-fits-all unit.

Start with the question you want to resolve

You do not need a complete surgical work-up to begin a professional discussion. Tell us whether you are seeking input on a particular case, surgical-team collaboration or support in developing a service.

How the discussion works

1
Introduce your team
2
Define the question
3
Arrange discussion
4
Agree next steps
  1. Introduce your team — Share your specialty, institution and the kind of collaboration you are considering.
  2. Define the question — We clarify the clinical or service-development question and what information is needed.
  3. Arrange the appropriate discussion — Where case records are needed, agree a suitable sharing process with appropriate patient permission before sending them.
  4. Agree the next steps — Clarify the proposed contribution, treating-team responsibilities and any institutional arrangements before proceeding.

Working with your local team

The purpose is to add expertise to the team already caring for the patient. Whether the next step is further assessment locally, a joint discussion or care at another centre, the pathway should be agreed with the treating clinicians and the patient. A case discussion is not a commitment to surgery or to transferring care.

Questions from colleagues

Yes. The discussion can begin with the question you need to answer and help clarify which information is needed next.
We are open to exploring this. The proposed role must be agreed with the participating surgeon and institution, including availability, permissions, facilities and responsibility for care.
We can discuss your current capabilities and a staged collaboration suited to your institution. The scope is agreed after understanding your team, facilities and requirements.
No. The initial discussion explores the question and possible next steps; the location of further assessment or treatment is decided separately.
Your professional contact details, institution, the type of support you are seeking and a brief question without patient-identifying information. Please do not send patient records or imaging through the initial enquiry.

Let’s discuss the next step
